My Approach to Care

I believe that patients are more than their chief complaint, diagnosis, and treatment plan. They are valued individuals, each with a story comprised of a history and a future. As a health care professional, I have the privilege of being a character in that story for a brief time and respect that I play a supporting role. It is my goal to help my patients achieve their goals.

Nicolas has always been drawn to roles that involve helping others and finds a great sense of joy and fulfillment in acts of service —that’s why he chose to become a physician assistant. When Nicolas comes to work, he looks forward to making a difference; to looking back at the end of the day and being able to see that he was involved in affecting change. Sometimes that change can be difficult to see, but that can add to the satisfaction.

“One of the biggest influences in my life has been observing the passion of others,” says Nicolas. “I have seen this in many ways and I can think of many people in my past that have had a positive impact in this way. Notable instances definitely include friends and mentors who have displayed a variety of Christ-like characteristics and that encourage me to do the same.”

Nicolas is involved in the local church and enjoys serving through the ministry available there. In his free time, he enjoys being with his family in the outdoors, ideally, hiking/camping. He also enjoys generally being productive—but he also sometimes enjoys rest.

Areas of Interest

I have a special interest in helping patients to understand the circumstances around their health care so that they can make well-informed decisions rather than doing what they are told is best for them. Even if I disagree with my patients from time to time, I feel it is important to work with them and let them play a large role in their own care.
