Pre-Admission Information

A Pre-Admission Test (PAT) nurse will contact you up to two weeks, but not less than 48 hours before your surgery. This call will take about 10 minutes and must be completed prior to your surgery. Pre-operative tests may be ordered at the time of your PAT phone interview. If the PAT nurse sends you for tests, complete them as soon as possible.

Be sure your surgeon has a phone number where you can be reached. If you are during the two weeks prior to your surgery, contact the surgery center PAT nurse prior to your trip. PAT nurses are available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and can be reached by calling (269) 308-7010, option 2, or directly at 269 308 7021.

If you have not been contacted within two days of your scheduled surgery, please contact us.

Preparing for Your Surgery

It is important to follow these general pre-operative instructions. Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery. This includes gum, candy, lozenges and sips of liquids.

The doctor or PAT nurse may ask you to take some or all of your regular medications with a few sips of water the morning of your surgery.

The drugs and anesthesia you will receive will make it unsafe for you to drive a care for 24 hours or to return home alone. A designated adult must accompany you to the surgery center. The designated adult may be a parent, friend or spouse. If a designated adult is not with you or cannot be reached by phone, your surgery may be cancelled.

  • Bring all of your insurance cards and your driver’s license with you the day of the surgery.
  • Do not smoke immediately before or after surgery.
  • Wear casual, loose fitting clothes
  • Do not bring valuables or jewelry.
  • If you wear glasses or dentures, bring your storage cases to store these items during your surgery.
  • DO NOT wear contact lenses.
  • DO NOT wear make-up. Skin tone changes provide important information for the anesthesia team.

If you have any questions about these instructions, call your doctor or the surgery center at (269) 308-7010.

After Surgery

After surgery, you will be taken to the recovery area. Once our nursing staff determines you are safely awake, you will be able to drink fluids and eat a snack. A family member or companion may be with you in recovery. We encourage parents to be with their children during recovery.

Each person reacts differently to anesthesia so recovery times will vary. Please be patient and help us provide the best care possible.

You will be discharged home from recovery. Sometimes patients may need longer to recover. When necessary, but on rare occasions, patients may be transferred to the hospital overnight to continue their recovery.

General Information for Children

We recommend that two adults accompany children and require that at least one adult remain in the surgery center.

  • Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian with them.
  • Do not bring other children with you on the day of surgery.
  • Children may bring a special toy or blanket with them.
  • Parents should stay in the surgery center facility through the entire procedure until their child is discharged. If both parents cannot be there, we strongly recommend a second adult be there to help bring the child home.

Insurance and Billing

You are ultimately responsible for the payment of all charges incurred at the Bronson Orthopedic Surgery Center.

As a courtesy, your insurance benefits are reviewed and verified before your surgical procedure. All charges directly related to your surgery will be billed to your insurance company and we will send you a statement after receiving the plan’s determinations of the covered amount.

The bill you receive from the Bronson Orthopedic Surgery Center will be in addition to any charges or bills you receive from your surgeon and your anesthesia provider.

If your insurance plan requires payment of co-pay and/or deductible, we may request that you pay this amount prior to obtaining services, depending on the type of procedure you are undergoing. Many insurance companies also require pre-authorization or pre-certification before your surgery.

Check with your insurance provider about these requirements prior to surgery. If you do not obtain health plan approval, all charges incurred during your surgery could become your responsibility.

Patients may pay any out-of-pocket expenses by check, cash, money order or credit card. The Bronson Orthopedic Surgery Center accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.

If you have questions about the procedure costs or have billing questions, call 269-256-4465, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

To best serve our patients and their families, we have a culture of excellence that provides care based on our vision, mission and values.
