His parents' journey is marked by gratitude for the care teams who have become an important part of their lives

Henry's journey began before he even entered the world. Born with congenital heart disease, Henry required extensive care right from birth. Henry's diagnosis turned his parents' world upside down, but it was also the beginning of a journey filled with so much courage and love. Henry's story is one of strength, bravery, and love, shaped by moments of challenge and triumph that have taken place throughout his life. At just two years old, Henry embodies a spirit that defies the odds, stealing the hearts of those lucky enough to know him. His bright blue eyes, rambunctious energy and love for music capture the hearts of all those who know him.

Because of his condition, Henry spent many of his early days at the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital before transferring to Bronson Children's Hospital for ongoing care. Henry became known for his ability to bring joy to everyone around him and was rarely in his room. He would often join his care team in their morning huddle or taking a stroll with the staff through the halls in his favorite car. His nurses and doctors became his extended family, celebrating his milestones and comforting him and his parents along the way.

Today, Henry continues his care with regular visits to Bronson Pediatric Cardiology Specialists in Kalamazoo, and every setback is met with the greatest support from his care team. His cardiologist, Dr. Robin Murphy, and nurse, Ally Austin, have been instrumental in helping Will and Teresa navigate Henry's condition. Dr. Murphy's compassion for her patients shows in the way she provides thoughtful care to Henry - knowing the right words to say, knowing his long list of medications by heart, and regularly checking in on Will and Teresa to see how they're doing. Henry's family feels incredibly lucky to have her as their cardiologist. Nurse Ally Austin, affectionately called "Aunt Ally" by Henry, has also become a special part of their lives. During one of Henry's extended stays at the hospital, Ally called every single day to check on him. Ally is an amazing listener, highly knowledgeable, and consistently goes above and beyond, making her the Rungaitis' absolute favorite nurse.

As Henry's story unfolds, it becomes clear that his life is not defined by his medical condition. He's a little boy who loves music and dance, adores his baby sister, who can be seen "bum shuffling" his way around the house, and whose laughter can light up even the darkest of days. His parents' journey is marked by gratitude for the care teams who have become an important part of their lives, supporting them every step of the way.

Henry's family has been able to reflect how far they've come and the incredible people like Dr. Murphy and Ally who have made it possible. They look to the future with hope, knowing that with the love and support of their extended medical family, Henry's heart journey will continue to be filled with moments of joy and strength.
