The Program Helped Me Gain My Life Back

I couldn’t believe how hard it was to do normal daily activities like walking up the stairs in my home or going grocery shopping. My doctor referred me to Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services in Battle Creek, where a personalized plan was created for me. I worked with Lon and Amanda and took classes that taught me how my lungs work, what my medications do for me, the importance of nutrition and how mental health plays a role in my recovery.

When I first started pulmonary rehab, I had a difficult time using the exercise equipment. My insecurities made me feel defeated and discouraged. Lon and Amanda were very supportive though. I didn’t think I could do it, but their encouragement pushed me to keep at it. As I continued through the program, I slowly gained momentum, began to master the equipment and found my strength.

I really enjoyed getting to know the other people in the rehab program, too. I quickly realized we were all in the same boat and we encouraged one another to reach our goals. Between the friends I made and the individualized care I received from the staff, the hard work was almost fun!

After going to rehab twice a week for a little over three months, I graduated from the program and felt like I gained my life back. I was even able to return to work full-time as a nurse at Bronson!

Unfortunately, I got influenza B and RSV after my bout with COVID, which required me to go back to pulmonary rehab. The good thing was, I felt like I was in much better shape than the first time around! Another great thing about the program is you can sign up for monthly maintenance visits after you’ve completed the program. If you have breathing issues, I highly recommend pulmonary rehab to help you stay strong and healthy!

I am so thankful for what this program did for me, and I will continue to share how wonderful it is to anyone who listens!
