Magnet® Designation

Bronson Methodist Hospital (BMH) is proud to be the first hospital in southwest Michigan to attain Magnet Recognition® from the ’American Nurses Credentialing Center’s ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®. BMH first received Magnet® designation in 2009, then again in 2014, 2018 and 2024. Approx. 3% of U.S. hospitals achieve a fourth Magnet® recognition. Read more about it.

Magnet® recognizes healthcare organizations that demonstrate excellence in nursing. It is considered the gold standard and is the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice. Only 10% of US Hospitals are Magnet®-recognized.

In evaluating whether a healthcare organization should achieve Magnet® recognition, ANCC considers the following five components with an overarching acknowledgement of global issues in nursing and healthcare:

  • Transformational Leadership
  • Structural Empowerment
  • Exemplary Professional Practice
  • New Knowledge, Innovation and Improvements
  • Empirical Outcomes

Magnet® organizations serve as centers of knowledge and expertise for the delivery of nursing care globally and are constantly striving for discovery and innovation.
