Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) or Heartburn

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), also called heartburn or acid reflux, is when the acid that is normally in the stomach leaks into the esophagus. The esophagus is the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach.

Most of the time, GERD can be managed by a controlled diet. In other cases, our doctors will prescribe medication or perform surgery to relieve the discomfort and aid in healing.
