My Approach to Care

As I strive to provide clear and understandable explanations about conditions and treatment options, patient education is a key aspect of my care. Through empathy, respect and open communication, I aim to create a supportive environment that empowers my patients to make informed choices and actively participate in their healthcare journey.

Dr. McLaren chose to become a general surgeon because it allows him to do what he enjoys most—solve problems, work with his hands and help the community. He has a special interest in helping patients in all areas of general surgery, especially abdominal wall and intra-abdominal pathology.

His biggest influence in life has been his wife. “She is my partner, my support system and my rock,” says Dr. McLaren.

In his spare time, he has volunteered with the Kalamazoo Special Olympics.  When he's not helping his patients or volunteering his time, you may find him playing pickleball and spending time with his wife, children and dog.
