My Approach to Care

For me, medicine is about a partnership between my patients and myself. I believe my role is to help educate and give evidence-based medical advice to help my patients better understand their health. That way, my patients can be informed and included in the decision making process. I believe this is the key to building trusting patient relationships and overall health and wellness of my patients.

Family medicine allows providers to build long-standing relationships with patients. This, coupled with the variety primary care brings, is why Melina chose the field. She sees patients of all ages through the various stages of life, which allows her to learn patients’ family history, beliefs and goals. Whether a patient is celebrating their own health milestone or needs someone to lend a listening ear and to be truly heard, Melina in available to support her patients along their healthcare journey. She treats patients of all ages and has a special interest in geriatric healthcare. 

Melina was inspired by her grandfather, Dr. Evan Kokales, to pursue medicine. “As a medical doctor, he found the balance between helping to advance medicine and giving excellent patient care while also spending time at home raising four children and being a devoted husband,” says Melina. “He is well known in our community for many positive reasons, and I have always hoped to follow in his footsteps.”

When she’s not at the office, Melina enjoys volunteering with local animal shelters and the American Red Cross, traveling, hiking, snowboarding and spending time with her dog, family and friends.
