My Approach to Care

The first step to providing exceptional cancer care is establishing a relationship with my patients. It’s very important to me that I am able to get patients to a comfort level where they know I care and I am truly interested and invested in their wellbeing. I want my patients to understand I have compassion for them, and have the knowledge and skills to treat them. I believe that research in oncology is what got us here and it is what that will take us forward.

Dr. Usman believes it is an exciting time to be an oncologist. As cancer rates continue to grow, cutting edge research and development is at the forefront – and this is of great interest to Dr. Usman! It excites him to discover new ways to treat patients, and new strategies to approach this elusive disease.

As a medical oncologist, Dr. Usman treats cancer using medication and chemotherapy. He has special interests in treating malignant blood disorders (hematology), as well as lung cancer, gastrointestinal (GI) cancers - like esophagus cancer, liver cancer and colon cancer – and genitourinary (GU) cancers – like bladder cancer, renal cancer and testicular cancer.

Outside of work, Dr. Usman enjoys staying active and fit. He loves working out, trail biking and spending time with his three daughters.
