Understanding medical charges
When you stay at the hospital, many doctors and healthcare providers will take care of you. Some of them work for the hospital. Other providers work for medical offices that will bill you separately.
Patients can expect to receive two types of bills:
Bill from the hospital
This bill will include the services you received from the hospital and its staff, including lab tests, X-rays, meals, etc.
Bills from providers
You will get separate bills from the surgeon and any other doctors who contribute to your care such as anesthesiology, radiology, pathology or other specialty services.
Why are you charged separately?
According to Medicare billing rules, when you see a physician in a private office setting, all services and expenses are bundled into a single charge. When you see a physician in a hospital inpatient or outpatient department, physician and hospital charges are billed separately.
Standard charges
If you do not want a personalized price estimate from Bronson, standard charges can be found in the form of diagnosis related groups (DRGs) and chargemasters.
