Bronson Recognizes Nurses, Nurse Leaders & Sunshine Caregivers With 2024 Awards for Excellence

Bronson celebrates Nurses’ Week and Sunshine Week each year during the second week of May. Throughout the week, awards are presented to a select group of nurses and sunshine caregivers who exemplify Positivity and are shining examples of what it means to be a Bronson nurse/caregiver. Award categories include:

  • Excellence in Nursing Award: These are annual awards presented to Bronson Battle Creek and Bronson Methodist Hospital nurses. Based on nominations from their leaders and/or peers, winners represent one of the key areas of the Nursing Professional Model of Care: leadership, compassion, respect, pride, expertise, rising star and impact.
  • DAISY Award: The DAISY Award is a nursing award made possible through the not-for-profit DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation. The award is presented throughout the year to nurses at hospitals across the United States. Bronson LakeView and Bronson South Haven Hospital present this award to one exceptional nurse each year during Nurses’ Week. Learn more about the award at daisyfoundation.org. Nominations for the DAISY Award are typically submitted by patients. Teammates and leaders may also submit a DAISY nomination for a fellow nurse. To nominate a Bronson nurse for the DAISY Award, visit bronsonthankanurse.com.
  • DAISY Team Award: The DAISY Team Award honors the collaboration between two or more care team members, led by a nurse. Together, the team was able to meet patient and family needs by going above and beyond the traditional role of nursing.
  • DAISY Nurse Leader Award: The DAISY Nurse Leader Award recognizes leaders who create an environment where trust, compassion, respect and nursing excellence can thrive, and patients and families are treated with deep humanity. These leaders advocate for and are accessible, and responsive to their teams. They problem solve and encourage critical thinking.
  • Unit Coordinator Award: The Unit Coordinator Award recognizes individuals who advocate for the nursing team, patients and families. They create a safe, supportive environment, meaningfully celebrate their team, are visible, accessible, and responsive, honor human differences, encourage innovative problem solving, develop a culture of resiliency, compassion, excellence and professional development, and support organizational goals.
  • BEE Award: The BEE (Be Exceptional Every day) Award is given to Bronson licensed practical nurses (LPN) who have demonstrated exceptional clinical skills, leadership and a commitment to patient care. Like in nature, the daisy cannot exist without the bee or the sun – similar to how our nursing staff collaborates with our LPNs and care assistants. Nominations for the BEE Award are made by colleagues and leaders.
  • Sunshine Award: This is an annual award presented to caregivers who go above-and-beyond to help clinical staff provide exceptional care for patients and families. Sunshine is such a critical element in nature, nurturing its surrounding environment – just like our care assistants! Nominations for the Sunshine Award are made by colleagues and leaders.
    • Sunshine caregivers are the care assistants, techs, LPNs and paramedics who work within the hospital setting and at outpatient practices, partnering with clinical staff to provide exceptional care and experiences for patients and families.

Join us in honoring our 2024 award winners! Read the nominations below to discover the important role these team members play in ensuring a positive experience for every patient, every time.

DAISY Team Award Winner

Bronson Methodist Hospital Extended Medical Care Unit (EMCU)
“This patient stayed with us for 97 days. During that time, we were physically and verbally assaulted by her, but that did not change the care we provided. It was a difficult time, but our staff grew as a unit. Everyone that was involved with her worked together to provide the best care possible. This included EVS, Case Managers, Nurses, Patient Care Assistants, Unit Clerks, Unit Coordinators, Social Work, Providers, etc. When the patient left, we threw her and her mother a going away party. We decorated her room and wheelchair, ordered lunch to have together and then had cake and ice cream to celebrate together as a family. This is just one of many examples that make the Extended Medical Care Unit such an amazing team and why once again, “When you’re here, you’re family.” Read the EMCUs full nomination.
