Annual Cancer Survivors’ Celebration Takes Place at Bronson Cancer Center

On Wednesday, August 30, the Bronson Cancer Center hosted an event for those who have been diagnosed with cancer, whether they are receiving treatment, in remission or cancer-free. Over 150 patients, families and community members gathered for this annual celebration.

“This celebration gives everyone who is a part of the Bronson community living with a history of cancer a chance to connect with each other, talk about their milestones and recognize those who have supported them along the way,” shared Clinical Director of Oncology Dr. Randy Mudge.

Attendees painted rocks to display in the cancer center’s survivor rock garden. Other fun activities like chair massages, chair exercises, balloon art and games took place. Bronson nurse navigators and genetic counselors were there to answer questions and connect with patients and their families. Representatives from the American Cancer Society, the Calhoun County Cancer Control Coalition (5C) and the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Navigation Program (BC3NP) also took part in the celebration.

“It is truly special to be able to celebrate with both our past and current patients and honor the progress they have made along their cancer journey,” said Medical Oncologist Dr. Timothy Cox.

Bronson Cancer Center’s Survivorship Program helps those with cancer get the care they need post treatment and beyond. Patients learn about screening and prevention of cancers other than the one they had. Patient’s primary care providers also receive information to ensure any long-term side effects are managed. This program helps patients move into the next phase of life after having cancer.

A second celebration will take place at the Bronson Cancer Center in Kalamazoo on Wednesday, September 27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to all cancer survivors who received care at the Bronson Cancer Care Center in Kalamazoo.
