Bronson Birthplace in Kalamazoo Achieves Gold Level Safe Sleep Certification for 8th Consecutive Year
Kalamazoo, Mich. – The Bronson Birthplace at Bronson Methodist Hospital has achieved the Gold Level Safe Sleep Certified designation from the Cribs for Kids® National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program for the eighth year in a row. The certification recognizes hospitals for their commitment to infant safe sleep to reduce the risk of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID), Accidental Suffocation and Strangulation in Bed (ASSB), SIDS and unsafe sleep injuries. Cribs for Kids certification lasts five years but requires an annual submission from the Bronson Birthplace to ensure the high safety standards are continuously met.
As a Nationally Certified Safe Sleep Hospital, the Bronson Birthplace in Kalamazoo is recognized for following the safe sleep guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and providing training programs for healthcare team members and safe sleep education to family and caregivers.
Every year in the U.S., there are approximately 3,500 infant sleep-related deaths, and according to the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS), a Michigan baby dies every 2-3 days due to sleep-related causes.
