Bronson Battle Creek Earns Another ‘A’ for Patient Safety

Leapfrog A Fall 2019Bronson Battle Creek was awarded an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national organization committed to improving healthcare quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The ‘A’ grade is a national distinction recognizing the hospital for protecting patients from harm and for providing safer healthcare.  BBC is one of only 877 hospitals in the United States, to be awarded an ‘A’ grade in Fall 2019.

The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Grade is a highly respected measure of patient safety in the healthcare industry. The organization assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care. This ranking provides an important resource for patients, and a benchmark for hospitals, to determine how care at one hospital compares to others in a region.

“‘A’ hospitals show us their leadership is protecting patients from preventable medical harm and error,” says Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes genuine commitment at every level – from clinicians to administrators to the board of directors – and we congratulate the teams who have worked so hard to earn this A.”

Developed under the guidance of a National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to the more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals that have chosen to submit data twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

Bronson Battle Creek COO Jim McKernan says, “We are committed to providing exceptional care at Bronson Battle Creek and third party reviews like the ‘A’ Leapfrog safety grade and recent five-star ratings from Healthgrades showcase our hospital’s strengths to the community.  Our employees and medical staff are very proud to be among the top performers in the nation and look forward to serving you and your family at our facilities in Battle Creek.”
