Bronson Battle Creek Honored Again for Patient Safety

MHA 2019Bronson Battle Creek Hospital recently received another significant recognition for its achievements in patient safety. The Michigan Health and Hospital Association (MHA) presented two Bronson Battle Creek employees with its quarterly Speak Up! Award.

The MHA and the MHA Keystone Center launched the Speak-up! Award in 2016 as part of a statewide safety initiative. The award recognizes hospitals and staff members for cultivating a culture which encourages employees to speak up for the safety of patients and each other.  In this instance, Bronson Battle Creek nuclear medicine technologists Eryn Glerum and Stephanie Pratt were recognized for identifying and following through on an incidental, rare finding during a cardiac stress test. Their finding helped ensure the patient received important information about a potential serious health concern.

“Speaking up is critically important. We need to have every individual that’s involved in the patient’s care journey talking with each other, comparing notes, describing what’s working and what’s not,” says Brian Peters, MHA, CEO. “That’s the culture we need to promote and recognize, and that’s what this award presented to Bronson Battle Creek staff is all about.”

The MHA award comes on the heels of Bronson Battle Creek receiving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group, a national organization committed to improving healthcare quality and safety for consumers. Bronson Battle Creek was one of only 855 hospitals in the United States to be awarded an ‘A’ grade in Fall, 2018 based on the hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in its care.

“Being recognized nationally and at the state level for patient safety is an incredible honor and a reflection of how diligently our teams at Bronson Battle Creek are working to ensure every patient is receiving the highest quality of care,” says Frank Sardone, president and CEO, Bronson Healthcare. “Whether a patient is coming to the hospital for an emergency visit, joint replacement surgery, to have a baby, or any other type of care, they can trust that our doctors and staff are looking out for their safety.”
