Bronson Birthplace Achieves Silver Level Safe Sleep Certification for 6th Consecutive Year
Battle Creek, Mich. – The Bronson Birthplace at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital has once again achieved the Silver Level Safe Sleep Certified designation from the Cribs for Kids® National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program. The certification recognizes hospitals for their commitment to infant safe sleep to reduce the risk of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID), Accidental Suffocation and Strangulation in Bed (ASSB), SIDS and unsafe sleep injuries. Cribs for Kids certification lasts five years but requires an annual submission from the Bronson Birthplace to ensure the high safety standards are continuously met.
As a Nationally Certified Safe Sleep Hospital, Bronson Birthplace – Battle Creek is recognized for following the safe sleep guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and providing training programs for healthcare team members and safe sleep education to family and caregivers.
Every year in the U.S., there are approximately 3,500 infant sleep-related deaths, and according to the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS), a Michigan baby dies every 2-3 days due to sleep-related causes.
“This certification is important validation that our staff are consistently learning and educating new parents on the best safe sleep practices. We are committed to giving parents the skills they need to ensure their newborn sleeps safely at home from day one,” says Carol Fuller, system director, Bronson Women’s & Children’s Services.
Bronson is the leading birthing center in southwest Michigan and is nationally recognized for quality and safety. In 2022, there were more than 4,500 babies born at the Bronson BirthPlace, which has two locations – Battle Creek and Kalamazoo.
At the Bronson Birthplace, all families are surrounded by an experienced care team and enjoy the comforts of private, spacious rooms with secured access for privacy and safety.
