Bronson Healthcare’s Chief Information Officer Ash Goel, MD, is the recipient of the 2023 Michigan CIO of the Year ORBIE® Award in the Large Enterprise category. The Michigan ORBIE® Awards program highlights the leadership of CIOs across all industries and recognizes those who are high achieving in shaping their organizations and helping their industries advance through technology and strategy.

Winners are selected by an independent peer review process, led by prior ORBIE recipients, based upon:

  • Leadership and management effectiveness

  • Engagement in industry and community endeavors

As a senior vice president, chief information officer and practicing physician in Bronson Healthcare’s hospitalist program, Dr. Goel brings a well-rounded perspective and leadership acumen to information technology strategy and systems as well as willingly shares his knowledge with peers across the country.

He also empowers Bronson’s IT team of 200+ professionals so that they are set up and motivated for success. For example, through his leadership, Bronson’s electronic medical record system achieved Epic Gold Stars Level 10 (the highest level) placing Bronson in the top 4% of healthcare organizations nationally.

Most recently, Dr.Goel and his team have driven value on several key strategic initiatives, including: clinical efficiency and process redesign enabling capacity and throughput optimization, digital transformation efforts to enhance consumer experiences; deployment of new services and analytics to improve patient care access and enhance clinical quality, data integration and decision support systems; expanded cyber resiliency through training and technology; and developed an integrated cloud-based multichannel communication/collaboration platform for internal operations.

"Every business is a digital business, and having inclusive, empathetic leadership is the X-factor that can elevate IT into a remarkable strategic differentiator," said Ravi Pendse, MichiganCIO Chair. "The ORBIE Awards are meaningful because they are judged by peers – CIOs who understand the challenges of technology leadership."
