KALAMAZOO, Mich. — In December, Bronson awarded four members of its medical staff with the 2023 Compassionate Physicians and Compassionate Advanced Practice Professionals of the Year Award. Winners were nominated and chosen by their peers. This years’ recipients are:
“Empathy is the ability to share the feelings of another. Compassion goes beyond empathy by taking action to reduce another person’s suffering,” says Michelle Halley, MD, a critical care medicine physician at Bronson Pediatric Medicine Hospital Specialists, and chair of the Bronson Healthcare system’s provider wellness committee. “Our 2023 Compassionate Physicians of the Year have demonstrated both empathy and compassion for their patients. All four of our award recipients serve as incredible examples of the excellent quality care we strive to give every patient. I am humbled and thankful to have the opportunity to work with such caring and committed professionals.”
The annual awards are made possible through generous donations to Bronson Health Foundation, with special thanks to:
- The Gretchen LaReau Memorial Fund at Kalamazoo Community Foundation which supports the award to one physician in Kalamazoo County annually. This fund was created by Allan and Rita LaReau to honor the memory of their daughter Gretchen, who passed away from cancer.
- The Bronson Battle Creek Hospital Community Partners, which funds award recipient(s) from Calhoun County.
