Bronson Hospitals Receive Top Grades for Patient Safety from The Leapfrog Group
Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades for spring 2022 were released today with Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo receiving an “A” and Bronson Battle Creek Hospital scoring a “B”. This national distinction recognizes the staff at Bronson for quality and safety achievements that protect patients from preventable harm and error in the hospital.
“Earning high grades from The Leapfrog Group assures our community that Bronson is among the best in the nation at keeping hospitalized patients safe,” said Cheryl Knapp, senior vice president and chief quality officer for the Bronson Healthcare system. “Our employees and medical staff members can be especially proud of this achievement as it was awarded for care provided during the pandemic and shows they successfully put patient safety first amidst many challenges.”
The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
