Bronson Opens Urgent Care in Downtown Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo, Mich. – Bronson Healthcare announces the opening of Bronson Urgent Care adjacent to the Bronson Methodist Hospital campus in downtown Kalamazoo. It is conveniently located at 940 John St, just a half block south of the Bronson Cancer Center with easy access off Crosstown Parkway.

Bronson Urgent Care offers an accessible walk-in care option for adults and children ages 3 months and older seeking care for common ailments, injuries and immediate care needs. It will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Kimberly Hatchel, senior vice president and chief operating officer for Bronson Methodist Hospital, says, “Visits to Bronson Methodist Hospital’s Emergency Department have grown to over 84,000 a year. Approximately 30 percent of these visits are for conditions that could have been treated at an urgent care facility instead. By providing a site near the hospital to treat patients with lower acuity conditions, we expect to better meet our community’s needs and reduce congestion and wait times in our ED.”

Bronson Urgent Care is the best choice for common illnesses and injuries that require prompt attention, but that are not serious or life-threatening. Conditions such as minor fractures requiring X-rays, sprains, ear infections, cold and flu symptoms, minor burns and cuts requiring stitches can all be effectively treated at Bronson Urgent Care. If a patient goes to urgent care and is assessed as having a condition requiring a higher level of care, they will be transferred to the emergency department. Both the ED and urgent care are overseen by the same group of emergency medicine providers.

When deciding where to go for care, Bronson suggests these care options:

  • Your Primary Care Provider
Your doctor’s office often reserves a number of slots each day for urgent cases, so it’s best to start by calling them first. They also know your medical history and can give you the best advice.
  • Bronson FastCare® – 5623 Gull Road & 6220 West Main, Kalamazoo
Convenient medical attention for patients 18 months or older with a minor illness or healthcare need.
  • Bronson Urgent Care – 940 John Street, Kalamazoo
For patients three months of age or older with a non-life-threatening illness or injury that needs prompt attention. On-site x-ray and diagnostic testing are available as part of an urgent care visit*. Bronson also has an urgent care location in Battle Creek.
  • Emergency Department
For serious or life-threatening emergencies such as stroke symptoms, chest pain or trouble breathing or per your doctor’s instruction, call 911 or go to the ED right away.

If a community member is uncertain about their care options, Bronson Care Advisors are also available 24/7 to connect people to the care option that best meets their needs. They can be reached at (269) 341-7788.
