Bronson Welcomes First Babies of 2021

A southwest Michigan family is celebrating an extra-special early morning delivery that occurred just after midnight, marking the first baby born at Bronson in 2021.

Rowyn Jade Weimer, a baby girl, was born at 12:14 a.m. at the Bronson BirthPlace in Kalamazoo. Rowyn weighed in at 6 lbs., 14 oz. The proud parents are Celeste and Blake Weimer of Texas Township.

This is the sixth baby, but first daughter, for the parents. Blake said the entire family is “super excited” to welcome Rowyn and they think her January 1 birthday is very special.

First Baby of 2021 at Bronson BirthPlace in Battle Creek

John Burks and Makyla Mabry welcomed their new baby girl, Lailyn, to the world at 1:27 a.m., making her the first baby born at the Bronson BirthPlace in Battle Creek this year. Lailyn weighed in at 5 lbs., 10 oz. 

Makyla shared that she was feeling both "happy and shocked". Happy to welcome her new daughter, but also shocked as the couple had expected Lailyn to arrive at the beginning of February.

Makyla said that she started to have contractions New Year's Eve day and at first she thought they must be Braxton-Hicks contractions or practice contractions. When she realized the contractions were the real thing, she was off Bronson to welcome Lailyn to the world. 

Lailyn is the first girl in a family with two older brothers.
