KALAMAZOO, Mich. − Bronson Healthcare is pleased to announce the completion of its new outpatient orthopedic surgery center in Kalamazoo. Located at I-94 and 9th Street, the 18,000 square foot, state-of-the-art surgery center at 6263 Beatrice Drive is part of a 52-acre site that Bronson is developing into a Health Village. The surgery center is jointly owned and operated by Bronson Healthcare and a group of Bronson orthopedic surgeons. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on July 27th and the facility will open to patients as soon as the standard inspections and regulatory approvals are complete.
With four operating suites, Bronson Orthopedic Surgery Center is fully equipped to handle an array of outpatient surgical procedures, including:
- Sports medicine
- Joint replacement surgery
- Hand surgery
- Fracture repair
- Foot and ankle surgery
- General orthopedic surgery
The center will be staffed by experienced board-certified Bronson surgeons who also perform orthopedic surgery at other Bronson sites, as well as a dedicated team of anesthesiologists and skilled surgical and support staff. Post-operative care will be provided on-site with patients being discharged home for recovery on the same day as the procedure. It is estimated that the new surgery center will accommodate over 5,000 orthopedic cases each year, once it is fully operational.
“With the majority of orthopedic surgeries now performed safely and efficiently on an outpatient basis, our new surgery center is the perfect option for many patients,” says Ken Hammer, Administrative Director. “This setting offers an ease and efficiency for certain procedures that will be a nice complement to Bronson’s hospital-based surgical services in Kalamazoo County.”
Construction of the outpatient surgery center began in late 2021 in response to a significant trend in patients seeking surgical care at Bronson. It was developed to both accommodate the communities’ increasing needs for orthopedic care and to make access to outpatient surgical services easier. The addition of these four operating suites for orthopedics and sports medicine is expected to help reduce overall wait times for patients scheduling other procedures at Bronson Methodist Hospital.
