Trauma Injury Prevention and Community Outreach
There are things you can do to reduce your injury risk. We’re here to help guide you. As a Level I Trauma Center, we teach injury prevention to the community. We provide many tips, presentations and programs for you, your school, your church and more.
Community Outreach
- CarFit – This free, interactive and educational program for mature drivers will teach participants how to make their personal vehicle "fit" them to increase safety and mobility when they hit the road.
- Distracted Driving – This program is available as a presentation to classrooms, student leadership organizations, college students, civic groups or other community organizations.
- Helmet Fittings – Bronson Trauma Services, Bronson Children's Hospital and Safe Kids Kalamazoo County, provide helmets and fittings for children and adults. The use of protective equipment has been associated with a 43 percent decrease in the rate of head, neck and face injuries.
- ThinkFirst for Teens – This presentation is for classrooms, student leadership organizations, civic groups or other community organizations.
- Underage Drinking – This program is available as a presentation to classrooms, student leadership organizations, college students, civic groups or other community groups and is free of charge.
Injury Prevention Education
- Bonfire Safety – A bonfire can keep you warm in winter or provide a fun gathering place on summer nights. As with any fire, caution should be used to avoid burn injuries.
- Falls Prevention – Here are some helpful tips on how you can lower your risk of being injured in fall.
- Firework Safety – Fireworks can be a lot of fun, but they can also be dangerous if not used correctly.
- Frostbite – Before braving the cold, make sure you know how to stay safe in frigid temperatures.
