Underage Drinking Myths and Facts

Underage Drinking Myths and Facts

Learn the truth

It’s sometimes a hard truth to accept that your teen could be tempted by alcohol. Helping teenagers understand the facts about drinking is one way to help influence their decision-making when that temptation comes along.

A message that makes a difference

The Underage Drinking program offered through Bronson provides a powerful message designed to get teens to pay attention. During the video and PowerPoint presentation, teens will hear:

  • Not only the statistics surrounding underage drinking, but what can happen as a result of being caught drinking
  • What to do if they are with someone who has been drinking
  • The personal stories of those injured by someone who chose to drink and drive. They’ll also learn from those who drove drunk, and now carry the consequences of hurting or killing someone.

Did you know?

  • Each year more than 5,000 teens die as a result of a motor vehicle crash.
  • 1,900 of those deaths involve underage drinking (U.S. Department of Transportation).
  • Alcohol kills six times more youth than all other drugs combined.
  • More than five 16- to 20-year-olds die every day in an alcohol-related traffic crash (National Institutes of Health).
  • Drinking leads to other injury-related deaths such as homicides, suicide, falls, burns and drowning. Altogether, there are almost 5,000 alcohol-related deaths per year (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
