Job Shadowing

Job Shadowing

Job shadowing is a short-term informal observation of a healthcare role. These experiences introduce students and learners to specific healthcare careers through the supervised observation of a healthcare provider. The goal is to assist the observer with making a healthcare career choice.

Please note that Bronson is unable to offer shadowing opportunities in the Emergency Department and Operation Room. Medical students, residents and individuals seeking residency opportunities should connect with WMED who manages this process from Bronson: https://www.med.wmich.edu/education.

High school students who are under the age of 18 seeking a job shadowing opportunity can find information here.

The observation experience is appropriate for:

  • People at least 18 years of age who are exploring healthcare careers,
  • College students who are required to complete a job shadowing experience as part of their academic program

Job shadowing is not:

  • An opportunity to actively participate in patient care or practice clinical skills
  • A formal educational experience (student practicum or internship)
  • Part of the interview process of a potential employee (please connect with our Talent Acquisition Team if you are a prospective employee)
  • Intended for international providers or professionals working toward US licensure.
  • Shadowing is also not available for medical students or residents.

Job Shadowing Types

Independent Job Shadow (Single Day)

Students or learners who plan to shadow at Bronson for just a single day (one site visit for less than a standard shift for the role being shadowed) can reach out to a healthcare provider at Bronson working in their area of interest. Once the student/learner and Bronson staff have confirmed, students can apply for the opportunity (rotation) at https://app.cliniciannexus.com/apply to begin the onboarding process. For single day job shadowing, onboarding should begin at least 2 weeks in advance of the start date for the job shadow.

Independent Job Shadow (Multiple Days)

Students or learners who plan to shadow at Bronson for multiple days (should not exceed 40 hours in a calendar year) can reach out to a healthcare provider at Bronson working in their area of interest. Once the student/learner and Bronson staff have confirmed, students can apply for the opportunity (rotation) at https://app.cliniciannexus.com/apply to begin the onboarding process. For multiple day job shadowing, onboarding should begin 4-6 weeks in advance of the start date for the job shadow.

Rehabilitation Observation

Rehabilitation services offers a limited number of observation opportunities during traditional fall, winter and summer semesters. Space is limited and will be filled first-come, first-served and based on staff availability. The student must commit to a minimum of 16 hours. He or she must have completed a minimum of two years of college and applying to a school of:
